Ever since Leopardheart died, I've tended to be a very reserved cat. I don't like sharing things with other cats very much now. I've just been that way since his death. He was the only one I felt I could rely in and now no other cat can seem to compare. I just can't open up to cats like when I was an apprentice. Personally, I'm sure it's because of my self-doubt. I'll always have the thought that I'm doing terribly on my mind, but usually cats can't see that about me.
What? Oh, yes. I am very doubtful of myself. I just can't convince myself that I'm ever doing the right thing! When I was an apprentice I thought I was the baddest cat to ever walk the forest, but look what happened to Leopardheart! He died because of me and ever since then I don't think I'm ever doing the right thing. I can't ever do the right thing when knowing that I'm responsible for my brother's murder.
To be honest, though, when I'm focusing on training an apprentice, hunting for the Clan, or patrolling - my mind is basically off the subject of death. When I'm not thinking about the tragedy of my brother, I'm actually a very humorous tom. I can get a good laugh out of a lot of things, and I like to make others laugh, too. I'm quite sly, I guess you could say, because I tend to catch a piece of prey and drop it from a tree above some cat's head. It's usually only my apprentices I do this to, and they usually freak out, too. It's hilarious!
I'm a very determined cat usually. I strive to be the best warrior I can be for my Clan ever since I was named Wolfcry. I don't want leadership, as most cats seem to think I do, but rather I strive to be the strongest and bravest warrior because it gets my mind off of the past. I'm always thinking of the past. I'm very nostalgic that way.
H I S T O R Y
My mother is named Moonside,
and she is an elder of ThunderClan.
My father was named Lionstride,
and passed away of old age.
My brother was named Leopardheart the day he died,
the day before I became a warrior.
"Got you, Wolfkit!"
Leopardkit squealed as he tumbled around with Wolfkit. They were playing a game where Wolfkit was the leader of ThunderClan and Leopardkit was the leader of ShadowClan. As they tumbled over and over, Wolfkit growled playfully at his brother, his amber eyes full of excitement. This was a game Leopardkit would never win! Pushing his brother off with his hind legs he quickly got up and tackled him.
"That's not my name!"
"Oops, I meant Wolfstar."
As they rolled around, batting at each other playfully, they had yet to realize the massive shape in front of them. Soon Wolfkit's back was impacting with a larger tom and both kits jumped up and backed away in fright. They glanced up to see the large dark brown tom glaring at them. his fur was short and scars were exposed all along his flank and shoulders. A nasty scar along his muzzle. It was Cinderfang, a warrior not as old as their parents, but older than a lot of the other warriors.
"Watch where you're going!"
A gasp came from behind the kits as the large tom snapped his words as though he was raking his claws down their backs. Leopardkit and Wolfkit's mother came racing up behind them, her fur bristling at Cinderfang. She exposed her teeth to him, a sign of anger, and glared at him enough to match his own glare. She was a fierce warrior as well, her thick gray tabby fur standing on end and her muscles tensed as though she would pounce to their defense.
"Don't you dare talk to my kits that way!"
Cinderfang's eyes flashed with an emotion Wolfkit and Leopardkit couldn't identify. Hurt? Shock? Defiance?
"Then maybe you should keep those kits in check, Moonside!"
Wolfkit flinched at the harsh words and he and Leopardkit dashed back to the nursery, not wanting to hear any more. As they got to the nursery, they stood just inside the entrance, both of them watching Moonside and Cinderfang being broken up from a fight that would have started any moment. Wolfkit glanced at Leopardkit with his wide eyes. Was his brother thinking the same thing? As if to prove his thoughts correctly, Leopardkit spoke.
"Let's not play around Cinderfang. He's scary... I don't want him to hurt Moonside..."
Wolfkit nodded, stepping closer to his brother to feel the safety of their bond with their shared body heat.

"Wolfpaw! Leopardpaw! Wolfpaw! Leopardpaw!"
Wolfpaw wasn't sure whether to be happy or to be completely terrified now that he was apprentice. He couldn't believe who his mentor was... A glance at Cinderfang just made him want to cringe, meanwhile Leopardki--paw got Badgerstripe! How unfair. Wolfpaw tried to look happy, but he couldn't help being disappointed in the choice of mentor for him. Leopardpaw sent him a sympathetic glance from the opposite side of his own mentor.
Wolfpaw was about to cast another glance at Cinderfang, but he noticed his mentor's gaze on him. Wolfpaw's fur fluffed up nervously and he shifted his paws awkwardly. The memory of him and Leopardpaw bumping into him while playing still haunted him. He had seemed like such a scary cat...
It was still early in the day, not even past sunhigh. They would be going out to start training, most likely. That was Wolfpaw's guess. Badgerstripe quickly said something to Leopardpaw, getting him excited before they headed out into the forest. Wolfpaw's fur was no longer ruffled with anxiety, but was now pricked with jealousy. How come Leopardpaw got to go out already when he was still here? Sitting with his mentor as though they were trees.
Wolfpaw was trying to be patient, figuring his mentor was just stupid and didn't know where to start. He could feel his mentor's gaze on the side of his face and Wolfpaw's eyes began to narrow. Was his mentor waiting for prey to crawl up to their paws?! The anger finally built up in the apprentice and he rounded on his mentor, fur bristling.
"Aren't you going to teach me anything?! We haven't moved a pawstep, meanwhile Leopardpaw is probably making his first catch!"
Wolfpaw bared his teeth, but his face soon fell to confusion as he realized Cinderfang wasn't looking at him sternly. Amusement and the knowledge of a wise cat was the fire behind Cinderfang's yellow eyes. He simply flicked his tail and began walking to the entrance to camp. Wolfpaw stood back, confused, and didn't follow. His fur laid flat again and his head was tilted sideways with confusion.
Cinderfang glanced back, crooked grin set in his features. "Confused?" Wolfpaw didn't answer. "Consider that your first assessment. You have good patience for a newly named apprentice, Wolfpaw." The small gray spotted tom blinked stupidly at his mentor before logic gathered in his mind. A silent 'oh' left his maw before he grinned and caught up to his mentor.
Maybe Cinderfang wasn't all that horrible after all.

Wolfpaw walked along light on his paws, strutting the forest proudly. He was much bigger than when he was first an apprentice. ____star would make him and Leopardpaw warriors any sunrise now! Just thinking about it caused the apprentice to glance at his brother with a look that said, "We're going to be the best warriors in the Clan!" Leopardpaw returned that with a smile of pure excitement.
Wolfpaw strutted along near the front of the border patrol as they headed for the ShadowClan border. ____star was ahead of him, leading the patrol, his mentor and Leopardpaw's mentor walking next to them and a younger warrior accompanying. Wolfpaw had his nose in the air. He was an amazing apprentice and would no doubt be the best warrior in the Clan. Still very vain, he walked confidently just behind his leader.
As they neared the border, Wolfpaw sat down for a few moments with Leopardpaw. "We'll be warriors any day now. That assessment was mouse-easy," he said with a flick of his tail. Leopardpaw rolled his eyes, still grinning happily as he took a seat next to Wolfpaw. They were best friends. They would always be best friends. There was no doubt of their blood being related.
"You're a little proud of yourself," Leopardpaw said with an amused glance towards his brother.
Wolfpaw stuck out his tongue. "You're just jealous. I'm going to be the best warrior ThunderClan has ever seen!" he said, a light of determination burning in his eyes. He heard most of the patrol purr in amusement at him. Wolfpaw's ears stayed pricked up proudly. They knew he was going to be. They were just surprised he knew it so soon!
The young warrior's ears pricked and her nose lifted to the air. Her blue eyes widened and her cream-colored body went rigid. "ShadowClan!" she hissed low, eyes narrowing in irritation. Wolfpaw narrowed his eyes as well. That Clan of fox hearts. They had better just be checking their borders. Otherwise they'll have to deal with me, Wolfpaw promised telepathically to the six cats approaching. Their patrols were even numbered.
Leopardpaw's eyes were wide, meanwhile Wolfpaw was just glaring at them with a look so challenging that it dared one of them to step over the border. The head of their patrol glance at the other cats, his gaze landing on Wolfpaw for a heartbeat. In that moment, Wolfpaw bared his teeth for a second before the tom looked to ____star. Fox hearts!
"Well, I hope ThunderClan isn't getting too used to hanging around borders and gossiping," the tom said with a sneer at Leopardpaw and Wolfpaw. The gray spotted apprentice glared back, smirking. Ever since he'd been getting better at battle training, eventually being one of the fiercest apprentices, Wolfpaw had been getting more and more vain about himself. The weakness was close to shattering, though.
"No, actually we have much better things to do than hang around your gruesome scent," Cinderfang said, the tom of the ShadowClan patrol glaring while some others bristled their fur with annoyance. Wolfpaw unsheathed and sheathed his claws, wanting to jump at one and show them what ThunderClan could really do!
"The only scent gruesome around here is your own. To be honest, that stretch of land would be much better suited for ShadowClan scent. Don't you think so, Ravenwing?" the tom said with a glance at a smaller she-cat, who nodded. Her eyes seemed hungry. For power? For territory? Maybe even blood. The tom took a step forward and Wolfpaw growled.
"Don't you dare! You have no right to even think of owning this territory. This is ThunderClan's!" he yowled at the tom, his fur bristling and his muscles flexing. He could take on this warrior. ____star waved his tail for silence, though. Wolfpaw took a step back and stood there with his tail lashing back and forth.
"ShadowClan does not need this part of the forest. You have plenty of room for your Clan, Bearclaw," ____star said with a calm look in his eyes. Wolfpaw had to admit s/he was a very admirable leader. His/her words poured smoothly from their tongue and they always seemed as though they knew what they were doing. ____star had always been a rolemodel for Wolfpaw. He wanted to be as good as them one day.
"What, ____star? Afraid your Clan will go hungry?" A challenge was in Bearclaw's eyes as he took another step forward, bringing him directly over the scent markers.
"Don't take another pawstep or we'll shred your ears off!" he threatened bravely, chest puffing out like he was a warrior already. He heard a murmur to him from Cinderfang, but he didn't listen. His eyes were completely focused on Bearclaw's movements. He could see the way the warrior's chest moved when he breathed and he could see which details of his face were changing when he narrowed his eyes.
"You think I'm going to take orders from a ThunderClan apprentice? Ha! You can't tell me wha--" his words were cut off by a yowl from Wolfpaw, though, as he flung himself towards the ShadowClan cat. There were a few gasps of shock from both patrols, but Wolfpaw was focused on fighting. He barely registered when more yowls broke out as the patrols lunged towards each other.
Bearclaw rolled over and Wolfpaw jumped away before being squished. Not giving a moment's hesitance he threw himself back at the warrior and they bowled over and over, scratching and biting each other. As they parted again, Wolfpaw tried to pause and take a few deep breaths, but Bearclaw's claws lashed out at him. Wolfpaw tried to turn his head and dodge, but they scored on the left side of his face and Wolfpaw howled in pain.
Turning his head caused him to notice two of the ShadowClan warriors on top of Leopardpaw. Panic flooded Wolfpaw's senses and he flung himself toward his brother, only to suddenly get crashed down upon by Bearclaw. Wolfpaw struggled and rolled so that he could get back up. He would have to hope for his brother now. He wasn't strong enough to escape Bearclaw and fight off two warriors when the large tom stayed right on his paws.
Yowling broke out as many pawsteps thundered their way through the undergrowth toward the battling cats. The ShadowClan cats suddenly turned and fled, yowling insults at them while they limped away. Bearclaw gave Wolfpaw the dirtiest look ever and the apprentice, for once, didn't care. He turned heel and barged through his victorious clanmates to his brother, who was on the ground bleeding with another warrior next to him. The gashes in his sides told Wolfpaw of how badly he had needed help. The apprentice stared in shock.
He recalled the only thing he could remember from all the times he was in the medicine cat's den. "Cobwebs! We need cobwebs!" he cried out, not paying attention to the gasps as they noticed his brother lying there panting and bleeding, eyes half closed. A murmur escaped his brother's mouth, but Wolfpaw couldn't understand it.
"Leopardpaw? Leopardpaw! Stay awake!"
As the terror filled Wolfpaw's bones, ___star came over and dipped his head sadly. A sympathetic look was cast Wolfpaw's way, but the amber eyes of the spotted gray apprentice stayed on his brother. He was the one who started the gray. He was the one picking a fight. It was all his fault because he thought he could handle every warrior there. It was only mid-battle he realized he couldn't. Now the consequences of his actions were on his shoulders. Leopardpaw wouldn't make it.
____star knew what was happening as well.
"StarClan, I ask you to look upon this apprentice." His words caused the cluster of cats to look at him and they all showed grief in their eyes. "Leopardpaw has trained well. He was fighting for ThunderClan with his courage and cunning, and now suffers. His paws lead to you, but before you accept him into your ranks, I ask that you make him a warrior for his bravery.
"Leopardpaw, from this day on you will be Leopardheart. ThunderClan honors your loyalty," the leader spoke, bowing his head sadly.
Wolfpaw felt his eyes watering as his brother, Leopardheart, met his gaze for the last time. A soft happiness was the last emotion they showed before closing forever. The spotted gray apprentice began shaking as Leopardheart's body went completely still. He took a hesitant step closer.
"Leopardheart?"
There was no answer. Wolfpaw brought himself closer, legs shaking and making it hard to stand upright. His nose nudged his brother, willing him to get up. He wanted Leopardheart to open his eyes, laugh and say he was joking. Then he would complain about the pain and ask for poppy seeds.
Still no movement.
Wolfpaw's furry cheeks began to moist with the gathering of tears in his eyes. His vision blurred with the water and he took a step back, head turning away, his left eye bleeding heavily and causing a minimal about of pain compared to what his heart was feeling. There would soon be a bright scar on his left side that would remind him of this day. Leopardheart was gone and it was his fault. It was all his fault.
"Leopardheart!"
And it was then that the cats around him heard the most heart-wrenching cry they had ever heard.
The next day, the apprentice became Wolfcry.
